The Team:

Paul Cipywnyk is president of Cipko, and manages writing, editing and Web development. Yumi Kosaka is secretary/treasurer, and directs English-Japanese and Japanese-English translation.

Experience You Can Rely On:

Paul has degrees in journalism and education, and completed a Master of Arts in Professional Communication at Royal Roads University in spring 2007. He's edited for newspapers and financial news services, written columns and articles, and taught ESL. After nearly a decade of freelance editing and teaching in Tokyo, he established a company with a partner offering language classes and editing services. Eventually Paul sold the company to his partner and returned to journalism, spending several years at Nikkei and Bloomberg in Tokyo, before moving back to Canada.

Yumi has a BA in English from Hirosaki University. She started her career as an executive assistant at a trading company in Tokyo. She then spent five years in the marketing department at Alcon Japan, where among other duties, she was in charge of translating promotional materials, manuals and newsletters. Yumi has also freelanced for several translation agencies, and was a project coordinator for a translation firm in Vancouver. In her spare time she takes accounting and business courses at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
